Editorial standards
Concrete work is expensive, hard to reverse and easy to oversell. These rules keep the journal on the reader’s side.
Independence
Staff writers do not take undisclosed payment from product makers or contractors they cover. A material relationship is declared in the article. Guest essays follow the same rule, as set out on write for us.
Evidence
Claims about standards, climate or method should be checkable. Australian Standards are cited by number when they govern the work (for example AS 3600 and AS 3727.1). We do not pretend a magazine essay replaces an engineer or a licensed builder.
Language
We write in Australian English: colour, sealer, metre, litre, aluminium. Units are metric. “Decorative” is not a synonym for “cheap” and “architectural” is not a synonym for “expensive”.
Corrections
Factual errors are corrected in the article and noted with an update date. Send evidence through the contact form. We do not silently rewrite a piece to bury a mistake.
Sponsored and guest links
If an outbound link is paid, gifted or otherwise a commercial placement, it carries rel="sponsored". Ordinary citations to public documents, standards bodies and Creative Commons image files do not. We would rather lose the link than disguise it.
Images
Photographs on this edition are Creative Commons or public domain, self-hosted, and credited on the page and on the image credits register. We do not scrape contractor portfolios.
Safety
Mix design, cutting, silica dust, formwork and structural work can injure people. We describe practice; we do not instruct readers to skip licences, PPE or engineering. If a paragraph could be read as a workaround for a code, we rewrite it.
